Many of nature’s beautiful creations can make our surroundings more enjoyable. One product of nature that improves the aesthetic value of an outdoor area is trees. The Canada Red Maple tree is one of the brightest and most beautiful trees to have in one’s compound. They bring a fresh and colourful touch to a space, making it look very attractive. By adding Canada Red Maples to a garden, one can vastly improve the attractiveness of a home.
Characteristics of the Canada Red Maple
The tree is medium size and can grow to a height of up to 25 meters. Its trunk can grow up to a thickness of 60 centimeters in diameter. The leaf size ranges between 10 to 20 cm, with a pale colour at the bottom and light green at the top. The bark of the tree is smoother as compared to other trees, and is dark grey in color. As the tree gets old, the bark gradually turns greyish-brown and becomes ridged and scaly. The tree’s seeds can be found in “keys.” These keys fall from the branches of the tree when the summer sets in. The seeds have a type of”wings” that allow them to be carried by the wind over long distances.
Where and how it grows
This tree species has the greatest distribution along the east coast, mostly in Canada. They do well in slightly acidic soils and regions with moist conditions. They can also grow in dry soils, provided there is full exposure to the sun. The Canada Red Maple is a fast growing tree. In just 70 to 80 years, they grow to full maturity. They have an average lifespan of over 150 years.
Benefits of the Canada Red Maple
The purpose of planting trees surrounding a home is mostly to improve landscape appearance, but there are other benefits. Red Maples produce shade during the summer, reducing energy costs and creating a beautiful canopy. During winter, maple branches are often bare. The Canada Red Maple can also be used for the production of the maple syrup, either for personal use or profit. The trees are an excellent source of mid-quality and high-quality lumber.
